Cannabis Youth Treatment

Cannabis Youth Treatment (CYT) is designed to address the needs of adolescents ages 12 to 17 who are using marijuana. It has been selected by the U.S. Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention as an exemplary delinquency prevention program. CYT services are provided for youth referred from the Tarrant County Juvenile Drug Court.

Youth attend 12 counseling sessions that include:

  • Two individual home sessions to help engage youth in the program
  • Ten adolescent group sessions that focus on drug education, relapse prevention, anger management, coping skills, anger and mood management

Program Goals:

  • Reduce or eliminate all marijuana/drug use
  • Improve family functioning
  • Increase school performance and attendance
  • Reduce involvement with juvenile justice

Family Support Network (FSN) is required of parents/caregivers of youth attending CYT groups. Family support has been cited as a critically important determinant of a youth’s success in remaining drug free. This family program is designed to engage families in their child’s recovery process by:

  • Improving family communication and relationship building
  • Improving parents effectiveness in dealing with substance abuse and the behaviors accompanying drug use
  • Developing effective approaches in dealing with problems

The FSN Program meets the first six weeks of the CYT groups and are offered in English and Spanish.
