St. Lawrence County (NY) YAP Thanks Local Girl Scouts for Sharing Love with Kids in Foster Care

St. Lawrence County, NY (SLC) YAP County Program Director Cynthia Mosier put together a collage of photos from the community’s recent Girl Scouts cookie kickoff at the Norwood-Norfolk Central School.  The event gave 450 Girl Scouts from 42 troops an opportunity to give back to their community by helping children they may or may not know.

Pictured are images from Mosier’s collage where she and YAP Training Program Director Emily Doelger picked up  about 70 bags that the troops put together for youth in foster care. The bags included toothbrushes, toothpaste and other toiletries, stuffed animals, activity books and handmade fleece blankets.

Mosier and Doelger thanked the Girls Scouts and also took time to explain how YAP works to keep families together. Mosier talked about how difficult it is for children of all ages who have to leave parents who are struggling and how having a special bag will mean a lot. She said too often children are moving from place to place with their belongings in plastic garbage bags.

SLC YAP works with social services partners to ensure the safety, permanency and bonding of children with a caring adult.

YAP has teamed up with social services, probation and child welfare systems to ensure all staff are receiving training on trauma informed care.
