Oct. 23, 2019 -- Youth Advocate Programs (YAP), Inc. Adams County, Pa. Program Director Robert Witt joined Eileen Grenell of Collaborating for Youth as County Commissioners proclaimed Sat., Oct. 26,  Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. YAP and Collaborating for Youth are mentioned in the commissioners’ proclamation as partners in a county effort to encourage residents to remove unused prescription drugs from their homes and dispose of them safely at designated collection sites.

Witt spoke to the crowd gathered for the proclamation, telling them that Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is extremely meaningful to the YAP.

“For 44 years, YAP has partnered with youth justice and child welfare systems to serve as an alternative to out-of-home care; YAP Advocates and staff are empowering youth and families facing complex challenges to find their strengths and pursue their goals, not in institutions, but at home with  their families,” Witt said. “We all know that one of our nation’s biggest challenges is the opioid crisis and that we have to get these prescription drugs out of people’s medicine cabinets and off the streets.”

Witt shared information about YAP and left a stack of brochures at the County building.

National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is Sat., Oct. 26. Information on where you can safely dispose of your unused medicines is available at https://takebackday.dea.gov.
