As NJ YAP prepares to celebrate 40 years keeping families together and out of institutions, our CEO, Jeff Fleischer, Newark YAP Program Director Robyn Dawson and long-time YAP Advocate Joan Newton talk about their work at YAP in this column in the New Jersey Star Ledger. In NJ, kids of color are 30 times more likely to be incarcerated than than their white peers for similar crimes. In response, we must build a foundation of meaningful community-based family-friendly supports in each of our neighborhoods that send the most kids to prison. "Our model builds communities. We are neighbors."
