Tom Jeffers, YAP’s founder, created a legacy of hope for vulnerable and marginalized families. He established YAP’s first program in 1975 and his vision still guides YAP’s work in the US and abroad.
Tom passionately believed that community-based care—not institutionalization and incarceration—is the right path for long-term success of young people, their families and their communities. He often said that together we can change systems, one biography at a time.
Tom’s own biography began with unwavering commitment to young people and families most in need of help and hope. New chapters are being written each day as YAP continues the work Tom began over 45 years ago. Although challenges remain and much work remains to be done, thousands of YAP successes are testament to the vision and passion Tom inspired.
