Sylvester Damianos
Sylvester Damianos, FAIA is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University and was a Fulbright Scholar in The Netherlands. For more than four decades, he balanced a career in architecture and art in both practice and leadership roles. His interest in all aspects of the visual arts-including interiors, industrial design, furniture design/fabrication, graphic design, painting and sculpture-influenced his firm's practice of architecture. He has served the Cultural Trust over many years, consulting pro bono on the architecture of the Wood Street Galleries and on the Trust's Public Art Advisory Committee.
Mr. Damianos served as national president of The American Institute of Architects (AIA), Chairman of the American Architectural Foundation Board of Regents and, most recently, as Chancellor of the AIA College of Fellows. A Fellow of the AIA since 1982, he received the Edward C. Kemper Award from the national AIA for outstanding contributions to the Institute and the profession. AIA Pennsylvania honored Mr. Damianos with its highest award, The Medal of Distinction, as well as the Honor Award for furthering Artistic Appreciation. He also has been cited by the architectural societies of Japan, Canada and Mexico; the Tau Sigma Delta Honorary Fraternity of Architecture and Allied Arts; and is a recipient of the Alpha Rho Chi Medal of the National Fraternity of Architecture.
