Vivian Sanks-King, Esq.

Ms. Sanks-King held several legal positions at UMDNJ. She worked as a healthcare administrator at UMDNJ—University Hospital. She served as Assistant Counsel to the Newark Board of Education and then as Assistant Dean of Seton Hall University School of Law, before rejoining UMDNJ's legal department in 1988. In addition to her legal duties, she is a frequently invited speaker before national and state professional organizations, university faculty and community groups on health law topics, which include corporate governance, end-of-life decisions, fraud and abuse and bioethics

Ms. Sanks-King is a past president of the Seton Hall University School of Law Alumni Association and immediate past chair of the Community Health Law Project, a legal advocacy organization for individuals with disabilities.

She also serves on the boards of Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan New Jersey, the New Jersey Public Policy Research Institute (Chairperson), the Garden State Bar Association, the New Jersey Women and AIDS Network, and Leadership Newark (Vice Chair).

She was appointed by Governor Whitman to serve as Vice Chairperson of the Governor's Advisory Council on AIDS.

A recipient of numerous honors, Seton Hall University School of Law named her as its 1995 Distinguished Graduate and Rutgers University Newark College of Arts and Sciences' Alumni Association named her as its Distinguished Alumni in 1999.

In 1995, she received the Woman of Distinction award from the Girl Scouts Council of Greater Essex and Hudson and in 1998 she received the Salute to Policy Makers award from Executive Women of New Jersey. Last year, she received the 2002 Raymond A. Brown, Esq. Social Justice Award from Babyland Services, Inc. and the 2002 Community Service Award from the Northern New Jersey Black Nurses Association.
