YAP Support Center hosts luncheon for Haiti relief

Last Friday, January 29th, The Support Center (TSC) [in Harrisburg, PA] held a luncheon to raise money for Haiti relief. Over 60 people squeezed into the Dauphin County Boardroom and put their appetites to work for the cause. Money was collected through ticket sales, 50/50 drawing, dessert sales, sale of donated items and monetary contributions.

Dozens of delicious dishes were donated by TSC staff and their families, as well as entrees from several local businesses. The response to the request for food donations was overwhelming and kept pouring in up until just minutes before the event. The buffet was extensive and varied and ranged from moussaka to homemade apple pies to jumbo shrimp to hot dogs (grilled on a freezing day!).

TSC staffer Alice Kirkland decorated Gund bears as Haiti relief workers and chances to win the popular bears were sold during the luncheon. A 50/50 drawing was also held, with half the pot going to the winner and the remainder to the donation fund.

The event was a complete group effort and every single contribution was appreciated. The Support Center is proud to have been able to contribute to two causes: the leftover food was taken to the Bethesda Mission, a local Harrisburg homeless shelter. And a grand total of $867.97 was donated to the Red Cross Haiti Relief and Development Fund.
