Mr. May came to Youth Advocate Programs, Inc. (YAP) after receiving his MSW from Columbia University. During his time in New York, Mr. May fine-tuned his skills by working as a therapist for the Manhattan State Psychiatric Hospital and Outpatient Clinic. He also provided Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD) to children and families impacted by the September 11th terrorist attacks.
After beginning his YAP career as a therapist, Mr. May was quickly promoted to Director of the Harrisburg Outpatient Clinic. In this role, he also assumed oversight of the location's Advocate Program. As director of both operations, Mr. May was instrumental in implementing a Masters-level behavioral health training program. He provided clinical supervision to other behavioral health programs in the state, successfully lobbying government officials as a member of the Pennsylvania Community Provider Association (PCPA). Currently, Mr. May serves on PCPA's Board of Directors, as well as its Children's Committee.
In his present position as National Vice President of Behavioral Health Services, Mr. May retains oversight of the company's behavioral health expansion efforts, developing program procedures and guidelines while ensuring compliance with all government policies and regulations. Currently, he is working with YAP programs in Arizona, Texas, South Carolina, and Pennsylvania. New initiatives are also underway in New Mexico, California, Nevada, Maryland, Ohio, Massachusetts, and Colorado.
