The External Training and Consultation Division is led by Dr. Alex Sutton, Vice President, Education and Consultation. Dr. Sutton holds a doctorate degree in psychology from New York University and has been a practicing psychotherapist in inner-city communities for the past 25 years. He has served as a consultant/trainer at New York University and Rutgers University, an adjunct professor at Lincoln University, and Assistant to the Dean at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, where he continues to provide consulting services. He is also a consultant to the UMDNJ Office of Prevention Services.

Dr. Sutton possesses clinical expertise in several areas: psychological treatment of patients with serious and terminal illnesses, traumatic stress reactions and cross-cultural issues in psychotherapy. In addition to his clinical expertise, Dr. Sutton has been involved in a variety of community-based initiatives.

Dr. Sutton has compiled more than 30 years experience in training and consulting in business. He is an external faculty member of the American Management Association. Though much of his corporate training center on quality of work life topics, a primary focus has been enhancing communication and problem solving skills. Dr. Sutton's recent work has been on crisis intervention strategies with organizations since the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
