The City of Philadelphia was Dana Newman's training ground for human service and leadership skill development. Prior to joining YAP, he was employed by the City's Department of Human Services as a Social Work Supervisor. There he coordinated physical/sexual abuse investigations, managed crisis intervention services, monitored services provided by private sector agencies to 150 families, and coordinated conflict resolution with public/private agencies.
Respect for cultural diversity is a key element of Mr. Newman's management style. He is a certified trainer in cultural competency and provides training for YAP staff. He also provided training for the Philadelphia Police Academy and Holy Family College, as well as DHS and Private sector staff regarding staff development through the PA Council for Children and Youth.
Dana's professional affiliations include Black Administrators in Child Welfare (BACW), the National Association of Black Social Workers, the National Association for Social Workers, and the American Medical Association-National Coalition on Adolescent Health. Furthermore, he is a graduate and the Philadelphia Urban League's Leadership Institute. Having amassed 24 years of industry experience, Mr. Newman oversees YAP's child welfare and juvenile justice programs in Philadelphia, New Jersey, and Washington, D.C.
Dana has been appointed to the Child Placement Review Board by Delaware Gov. Ruth Ann Minner. He has served on the New Jersey Attorney General's Crime Plan Commission and has been recognized by the Cambridge Who's Who Among Executive and Professional Men for 2009.
